Building Belonging and Inclusion: DEIB for Small Business Success

Want to build a more inclusive workplace that also supports and improves your bottom line? This hands-on session shows B.C. business owners how Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging - DEIB -  connects to hiring, policies, and legal responsibilities. Walk away with practical tools you can use right away.

Did You Know?

1. Inclusive workplaces perform better. Businesses that invest in inclusion see up to 2.3x higher cash flow per employee, according to Deloitte.

2. Diverse teams are more innovative. Companies with higher-than-average diversity earn 45% more revenue from innovation, helping small businesses stay competitive in changing markets.

3. Inclusion is a legal responsibility in B.C. The B.C. Human Rights Code protects against workplace discrimination in areas like hiring, discipline, and accommodations — and DEIB practices help you stay compliant.

After attending the workshop, participants will gain:
- Practical DEIB tools that can be applied immediately — no large budget required
- A clear understanding of legal responsibilities under B.C.’s Human Rights Code
- Strategies to attract, include, and retain a more diverse workforce
- Simple, actionable ideas for building a stronger, more inclusive workplace culture
- Take-home resources, including a sample inclusive job ad and worksheets

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

•Define DEIB and its impact on workplace culture and HR practices,
•Explain how DEIB can improve profit and reputation,
•Identify inclusive practices across the employee lifecycle,
•Reflect on their own workplace’s gaps and strengths,
•Apply at least 2 HR-related DEIB tools to improve equity and belonging.
